Calling all insomniacs & stress bunnies!

Are you feeling tired, anxious, stressed? Are you having difficulty sleeping, switching off, relaxing? If so I am offering FREE relaxation sessions to help you unwind.

Pig Race report...

Many thanks to everyone who supported the Grand Pig Race in September. Over 80 people attended, many of them from within the Parish. There were also many people who couldn’t attend, but sent donations anyway. It was a hilarious evening – it’s amazing how much people will bet, and how loud they will cheer, for battery operated pigs!

The Blue Cross were delighted with the £1,850 we raised. Wendy Pinker, who also brought her beautiful hand made Nepali jewellery and bags in aid of her clinic in Nepal was equally pleased with her sales level.

Yate Library in temporary premises

Following our successful bid to the Big Lottery Fund, we are now in a position to carry out a major refurbishment and extension to Yate Library. Building work begins on November 3rd 2008 and we are moving to temporary premises at 23 South Parade until December 2009.

Acton Aid goes international

In September this year 5 members of Acton Aid ventured to Prague in the Czech Republic on the organisation's first ever international excursion.

Excellence at horticultural show despite growing conditions...

Iron Acton Horticultural Show took place on Saturday 6th September 2008 in the Parish Hall, and yet again exhibitors pulled out all the stop despite the atrocious growing weather. Although the number of exhibits was a little down on last year, the quality was exceptional. The General Section judge (who also judges the Yate show) commented that Iron Acton had far more exhibits than Yate!

Harvest Festival Turns on the Tap...

As the name suggests, St James' chosen charity to benefit from the harvest funds this year is involved with supporting some of the world’s poorest and most disadvantaged people who have no access to safe water. Their aim is to provide hand dug wells, water filters and boreholes along with health and hygiene education. In this year when we in this area have struggled through the wettest harvest on record it seemed impossible to think that the cry for safe water has never been more urgent or powerful in parts of the world which are only a 10hr flight away.
