Church Summer Fete dodges the rain!
11th July 2009
The church fete was held on a beautiful, warm and sunny afternoon of Saturday 11th July 2009. The weather forecast for the weekend was grim, but the sun shone in the micro climate of Iron Acton and the rain held off until the fete finished at 5pm.
The fete is very traditional with a wide variety of stalls, games and activities.
The refreshment section did a roaring trade serving visitors with delicious cream teas and homemade cakes. The children also enjoyed buying candy floss, popcorn and tubs of Marshfield Ice-Cream.
The church tower was open so fit and fearless visitors were able to climb up the narrow twisting staircase to climb onto the roof and admire the panoramic views of Iron Acton and beyond!
The children from the Kathryn Hurley Dance Academy kicked off the events in the display ring by entertaining the crowd with their beautiful dancing.
This was followed by the local football derby of Iron Acton Primary School, versus North Road Primary School for the coveted St James the Less Challenge Shield!
Both sides played brilliantly and were enthusiastically supported by family and friends. North Road School won and all players were awarded with medals presented by our Priest in Charge, David Harrex.
Then it was back to the display ring again for an enjoyable demonstration from Bristol North Taekwon Do Club. The club is a regular fixture for the fete and their support is very much appreciated.
The events in the display ring were rounded off brilliantly by North Road School dancing club performing a rousing dancing display to the crowds.
By 5pm as the crowds began to disperse and the bunting started to come down, the heavens opened! But we didn’t care; the fete had been a triumph, with a lovely day had by all.
This year proved to be a bumper year in both attendance and funds raised. The money raised (before deductions) was a staggering £1,300.
Thank you very much to everyone who helped to make this year’s fete the best one ever!
